Rev Norman Morrison, with his wife, sister (behind him) and children.  Rev Morrison was minister at Baile na Cille from 1931 to 1950.

He wasn’t the first of that name in Uig; the third known minister in Uig was also Norman Morrison, 1742 to 1777, who was a grandson of John Morrison, tacksman at Bragar – known in the archives as Indweller.  He studied at Aberdeen and St Andrews and from his ordination in 1742, spent his whole working life in Uig.  His church was the small blackhouse just outside the present Baile na Cille walled garden, near the cemetery.

      Hello,
I am looking for information on a Norman Morrison born about 1750 who married a Christian Gillies and came to NC about 1789. His oldest son was John and other children were Mary, Margaret, Neill, Effie, and Sarah. The children were born on Skye. Norman may have come over to NC as early as 1775 and returned to Skye during the American Revolution. He then married, had children and returned to NC about 1789. Could he be kin to the Norman Morrison mentioned above?

Interesting to see a picture of the late Revd Norman Morrison. He was my grandfather’s second cousin, being the grandson of Neil Morrison, a blacksmith from Scarista in Harris. My mother tells me that her father bought a cow from Norman and took it all the way back to North Uist – only to find that the beast was pretty much dry!
