1824 - Dùsgaidhean Spioradail – Religious Revivals

On 28 April 1824 Alexander Macleod was, through the patronage of Mrs Stewart Mackenzie of Seaforth, inducted as the first Evangelical minister in Uig.

As well as Sabbath services, he established schools, conducted weekly lectures and prayer meetings and instigated parochial visitation. Although he was not renowned for his eloquence, he attracted such large crowds, exceeding seven and eight thousand that he had to preach in the open air on the slopes of Cnoc Eothail, as the church was too small to hold them all.
