1851 - An t-Iasgach (1851 – 1900) – The Fishing (1851 – 1900)

In 1851 Valtos had four boats with crews of nine men each, they fished for cod and ling which was good that year. By the 1880s income from fishing surpassed that from crofting. Valtos, Kneep and Crowlista were the main fishing centres. Valtos and Kneep had forty boats crewed by a hundred and forty five men. Curing houses were located at Breanish, Crowlista and Valtos.
